Many times I laughed out loud at his verbal antics, but I was also often caught by his pathos, especially in the section where Wart grows up a bit. Read this book if you like Arthurian legends and philosophy! At a castle party for the royal birth, Merlin the Magician took the King aside. The guards were not there anymore — they must have all gone to the tournament. Was very thick, read in a week, a very satisfying ending. Through a series of adventures that involve being turned into animals, an encounter with a very hungry witch and a meeting with the real Robin Hood, Merlyn instructs his young charges in the ways of the world, and broader wisdom too.

Can't recommend this book highly enough. The first three books were originally published separately between 1938 and 1940; the fourth was added when the first collected version of the stories — titled The Once and Future King — was published 1958. It concentrates on the early years of Arthur, leading to his proclamation as king. At the very top of the stone there was a golden sword handle and a few inches of the blade, shining in the sun. Resting on the block was a giant stone the size of a very large rock. The Sword in the Stone in particular became template for a new telling of the iconic tale of the young Arthur finding himself king by innocently pulling Excalibur from its lodging, with Disney turning it into a hugely successful animated film in 1963. Evil men broke into houses and took what they wanted.

I purchased it as an audiobook on a whim - think it was on sale. The stories were originally collected and written by Sir Thomas Malory, and published in 21 books in 1485. I can't say enough good things about how enjoyable this book was. No king to set the laws. The scene with the jousters well you'll just have to listen to it!! Merlin saw how the foxes and deer followed Arthur. Follow Merlin as he raises, protects and instills his great wisdom on young Arthur, The destined King of Britain. Sir Ector and his two sons rode through London on their way to the tournament.

THE SWORD IN THE STONE by TH White Read by Neville Jason

My son loved the story and the came back asking for more by the same reader. It is partly the characters honest, steadfast Arthur; the outstanding Merlyn, absent-minded, humane and fallible, but always invaluably putting things into perspective; the petulant Kay; noble and generous Sir Ector; the endearingly clumsy King Pellinore; and the animals, too, who are credited with as much individual character as the people. With optimism and boundless enthusiasm, the Robinson family undertakes the extraordinary task of constructing a home for themselves and exploring the primitive island filled with strange and beautiful creatures and exotic fruits and plants. A good knight, Sir Ector, lived in peace with his two sons. At the end of each day when Arthur finished his chores, that was time for the lessons.

A classic coming of age adventure, featuring buried treasure, treacherous pirates, and the eponymous Long John Silver, Treasure Island tells the enthralling story of Jim Hawkins, a young cabin boy, who sets sail on an 18th century voyage in search of a pirate's buried gold. The sword has told us this young man is to be the next king of England. But I still haven't been inspired to read the rest of The Once and Future King. Against the background of a thousand years of vivid history, acclaimed writer Marie Arana tells the timely and timeless stories of three contemporary Latin Americans whose lives represent three driving forces that have shaped the character of the region: exploitation silver , violence sword , and religion stone. Sir Ector fell to his knees. He had started writing while still at university, becoming a full-time author and naturalist from 1936, and much of The Sword in the Stone which was published in 1939 reflects his several passions — the medieval period, the natural world — and his profound concerns about the approach of war. Through a series of adventures that involve being turned into animals and a meeting with the real Robin Hood, Merlyn instructs his young charges in the ways of the world, and with lessons of a broader wisdom, too.

One after another, they gave the sword a yank. He is the missing baby! Happily, he was able to hear the edited recording during his final days. Robbers and bands of wild men ruled the streets of London. I had to draw myself back on some occasions from a state of eye glaze where I had stopped listening! One day at lesson time, Merlin looked away. Neville began his association with Naxos AudioBooks in the very early days of the label and was a prolific contributor to its output.

Silver, Sword, and Stone

the sword in the stone audiobook

Through a series of adventures that involve being turned into animals, a hungry witch and a meeting with the real Robin Hood, Merlyn instructs his young charges in the ways of the world, and with lessons of a broader wisdom, too. What gives these books such depth, however, is not just the plot or the underlying implications of the storylines strong as they all are ; nor is it their place in epic, fantasy or Arthurian legend. Originally written in 1938, this audiobook is perfect for any J. Unfortunately I found the narrators voice to be a little monotonous in this instance. It was Merlin the Magician. Sir Kay ran off to get in line to register. Download and start listening now! All we need is one knight who is so strong he can pull that sword from the stone.
